My entry into animation: drawn completely by hand on tracing paper, then digitally scanned and edited together. The whole process took about a year – including many failed attempts.

A simple music video for a song by my best friend, Béo. The entire sequence was drawn frame by frame – without a storyboard, without planning. I also contributed the vocals and guitar for the audio – recorded with a Samsung Galaxy S9, so... yeah, the sound quality is somewhat mediocre. But it was my first animation after arriving in Germany – during the Corona period when I was still studying civil engineering in Aachen. Therefore, this video holds huge emotional value for me. That's why it stays exactly as it is.

My biggest passion project to date. Back then I was still studying civil engineering – and personally, it was a pretty tough time.

I put my whole heart and soul into this project. I had the first idea when I was saying goodbye to a good friend who gave up his well-paid job in Germany to return to Vietnam. That got me thinking: We Vietnamese all have such a strong connection to our homeland – but why?

On the way home, this song came up in my playlist: "Giai điệu tổ quốc" by Trần Tiến – a famous war song by one of Vietnam's greatest musicians. But for me it was more than that. The lyrics describe a melody, a rhythm that unites an entire country in war.

And I was especially touched by the part where he describes his mother singing this melody – the melody of heaven and earth, of love... It was this love that united the people in the war. This thought stayed with me – and inspired me to make the film. I am proud of my origins, my people, and what we stand for – and I hope that my film carries this feeling forward.

I hesitated for a long time to publish the project because I wasn't satisfied with the result. But ultimately: It was three important years of my life. And it simply shows how much I have grown since then.

Two short sequences for 2D animation over 3D scenes.

The first act of a short film, created in collaboration with many film students at the Technische Hochschule Georg Simon Ohm. I took over the project after it stalled following the planning phase. Since then, character design, art direction, backgrounds, and animation have been done exclusively by me. Currently, the project is on ice again – I'm waiting for script changes and looking for background artists, inbetweeners, and compositors. Everything was drawn with Procreate Dream and edited in DaVinci Resolve.
