I am Minh Đức and I am a little bit of everything (or everyone?)
I draw, sing, play a little guitar, animate – and occasionally dance when the music hits just right. I don't define myself as a specific type of creator, because… why should I?
Born in Hanoi, Vietnam, 1999. Academically speaking, absolutely average. Moved to Germany in 2019.
My parents provided me with an excellent upbringing and education – which I completely
wasted. Despite going to school with some of the most successful and impressive people in
the world, I managed to achieve nothing particularly significant academically.
As you can see in the picture – that sums up my school life pretty well.
My time in Germany so far has been...
complicated.
I spent my first year (2019) in the integration course for study preparation at the
Niedersächsischen Studienkolleg – Leibniz Universität Hannover.
After that, I lived in Aachen during my
Civil Engineering studies at FH Aachen
where I lived, worked, and studied from
2020 to 2023.
After a long internal struggle, I finally decided to pursue a creative path and began my
studies at the
Faculty of Design at TH Georg Simon Ohm Nuremberg in
2023 – until today.
I haven't really grown mentally since I was eight years old...
and probably not physically either.
I believe children are more creative than adults - they haven’t learned limits yet.
That’s the mindset I try to bring into my work and learning.
There are only things I haven't learned yet.
Currently, I am focusing on
3D/CGI, Film/Animation and Music
and working on the side as
Stagehand at E-Werk Kulturzentrum Erlangen
(Concert and Event Hall) as well as an assistant in the sound studio
at my university. My jobs revolve a lot around music – I work with artists, technicians, and
organizers at concerts and events, as well as with students on their projects.
Over the years I've had many jobs – and in each one I learned something new.
At my university, I have participated in many projects and collaborations with other students.
From film and animation to CGI, I have gained experience both on set and in post-production.
I am also active in the Nuremberg music scene – I work, jam, and play with people who love music
just as much as I do.
For me, it's always about the "Wow" effect. Especially in visual arts, I try to stand out and
leave a strong first impression.
I started learning animation in 2018 and have been focusing on it more intensively since 2022. I
mostly taught myself frame-by-frame 2D animation and am now exploring 3D.
By the way, this little guy down there is my very first animation from 2018 – drawn on paper.
Since my studies at TH Nuremberg, I have developed a strong interest in 3D. I have explored many
aspects of the 3D workflow in various areas.
As an assistant in the sound studio at my university (and also for personal relaxation), I use a
variety of software, plugins, and instruments – both professionally and for fun.
I have tried many media and disciplines and learned countless tools and programs along the way. Nevertheless, I don't just rely on technology. I think it is an important tool – but real creativity comes from the mind.
My latest adventure? This website right here. In the last few months I learned HTML, CSS and
built this portfolio website all by myself – with Phoenix Code, PuTTY, WinSCP, ChatGPT,
Deepseek... The DNS server and web hosting were provided to me as a student of TH Nuremberg free
of charge by Hetzner. So: Props to Hetzner!
P.S.: To be honest – after biting my way through animation, nothing else really feels difficult
anymore. (...but you didn't hear that from me)
